China

China was a Global Tribe and newsboys focus in 2006 when they traveled to China for a series of free and low-cost events with the mission of ministering to Chinese university students. Today, the impact Global Tribe and newsboys had on these students for just one night in their lives is still felt in these communities where the Christian population is growing steadily.

The Facts: China is a nation of 1.3 Billion people, yet it has fewer than 25 million college students. These students will be the future leaders of that great nation. Global Tribe together with newsboys, aimed to reach this select, influential, target audience in a way that made a mark spiritually for generations to come.

“We want to be influencers who go and affect the future leadership. We’re not looking just to entertain people, we are seeking to change a generation… that starts in the universities.” - Peter Furler

Our Passion: newsboys have incredible access and substantial widespread spiritual influence with the university students of China and Asia. Very few Christian individuals, western churches, mission organizations, or evangelists truly have this type of unprecedented access in the world’s most populated country.

Our Process: In 2006, newsboys had the privilege of playing several events in China. They were not prepared for what developed as a result of those nights. The audience consisted primarily of university students who came either our of curiosity or a hunger for western rock music. It was apparent to all that the student’s hearts were touched by the message ain the music and the genuine love and commitment shown by the band. Many people serving God in those Chinese cities as teachers, church planters, and mission workers communicated the overwhelming response to the message and the increased oppourtunity to share the Gospel with their student friends. Many students came to Christ. forging deeper relationships as a direct result of attending these concerts. These stories confirmed in the hearts of newsboys that God was calling them to make a mark in China and Asia.

Our Project: Through our partnerships with numerous ministries already in place on university campuses throughout China, newsboys want to be the catalyst for further opportunities for the Gospel to be shared and disciples to be made. They will travel throughout China putting on concerts at or near university campuses. Together with our existing ministry partners, concert tickets will be given to invite students to the concert. These free tickets will facilitate the Chinese students attending the concert with a person they already know, such as their teacher, a fellow student, or house chirch planer or minister. newsboys have already seen, despite the culture and laguage barriers, how their music and the Holy Spirit work effectively in China. Their goal in this project is to create Christ-centered events in China that will generate spiritual hunger in students and promote spiritual relationships between missionaries and the students.

Our Partnership: The typical Chinese university student does not have the ability to purchase a concert ticket. Knowing this, Global Tribe and newsboys are committed to making these concerts low to no-cost events for these students. To take a cutting-edge concert production like newsboys around the globe to Asia is an extremely costly endeavor. Your partnership with Global Tribe will allow students to attend these events at no cost. It will also provide for ministry materials and support for Christian missionaries already living and working among these students.

“Going to China, where there are 25-30 million university students who are taught atheism, it felt kind of like we were a ‘Trojan Horse’ being wheeled into the city. We went there sharing a gift, a gift of music, and yet out of the music comes the Gospel message. The music affords us the blessing of being able to go to places where preachers wouldn’t go, where an evangelist can’t go.” -Peter Furler
